IBIA was pleased to contribute to a panel discussion on “Who’s Watching the Game? The Global Fight Against Manipulation and Harm in Sports Betting” on the opening day of SiGMA World Euro-Med 2025 in Malta.
Representing the international regulated betting sector, IBIA’s Antonio Abdilla Zerafa highlighted the following:
Using account-level data to safeguard sport:
Through its Global Monitoring and Alerts Network, IBIA analyses account-level betting data to detect suspicious activity. This intelligence is shared with partners worldwide, supporting investigations and successful prosecutions. In 2024 alone, IBIA alerts contributed to 17 successful prosecutions of clubs, players, and officials, demonstrating how account-based monitoring helps transform data into evidence.
Strengthening coordination across stakeholders:
Sports, regulators, law enforcement, and the regulated betting industry must act together. Antonio stressed the importance of mandatory participation in global monitoring systems and robust regulatory frameworks within sports and sports betting to address the international and organised nature of match-fixing.
IBIA continues to champion collaboration and partnership to create a safer, fairer, and more transparent global betting landscape.
